The varieties of birch flooring differ according to each manufacturer, an example is Green River of Illinois' categories :

Selects and Better Red Birch
Is selectively sorted for red heartwood, clear of defects, with minimal amounts of lighter sapwood. With coloration similar to Cherry, and hardness comparable to Red Oak, it's no wonder that Red Birch is fast becoming so popular.

Lengths range from 15" - 7', averaging approximately 3.75'.
Available in 2-1/4", 3" and 4" widths.

Common Red Birch
contains the natural variations of color between light-toned sapwood and rich, red heartwood. Allows some streaks and tight, sound defects for a more colorful appearance.

Available in 2-1/4", 3", and 4" widths.
